Reef fishing paradise
The waters around Robben Island are home to some of Cape Town's most productive inshore fishing grounds. The complex reef structures, sandy patches, and depth variations create ideal habitat for a wide variety of species.
Cape Yellowtail patrol the reef edges and pinnacles, particularly during autumn and winter months. The sandy bottoms between reefs hold good numbers of Kob and Geelbek, while the reef itself is home to Red Roman, Hottentot, and other prized table fish.
This area is often protected from the prevailing southeaster wind, making it fishable when other grounds are too rough. The relatively shallow depths (15-60m) make it ideal for light tackle enthusiasts and anglers looking for consistent action.
